Top-ups & rollover
Buying extra CU; subscription rollover and forfeiture rules.
When you need more CU than your monthly allowance provides, you have two options: rollover from a previous month (automatic, up to the carry cap) or Top-Ups (pay-as-you-go).
Rollover (automatic)
Unused subscription CU rolls into the next month, up to a 2× cap.
Example on Starter (500 CU/month):
- Month 1: you use 200 CU. Remaining 300 CU rolls to Month 2.
- Month 2: starts with 500 (allowance) + 300 (rollover) = 800 CU available. Carry cap is 1,000, so this is fine.
- Month 2: you use 100 CU. Remaining 700 CU + Month 3's 500 = 1,200 — but carry cap is 1,000, so 200 CU forfeit at Month 3 start.
The cap exists to prevent indefinite accumulation; if you have sustained underuse, downgrade your plan rather than accumulating forever.
Top-Ups (manual)
If you need more CU mid-month, buy a Top-Up:
| SKU | Price | CU | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | $20 | 134 CU | $0.149 / CU |
| Medium | $50 | 367 CU | $0.136 / CU (10% bonus) |
| Large | $200 | 1,613 CU | $0.124 / CU (20% bonus) |
Top-Ups have these properties:
- Sticky — they do not expire month-to-month
- Burn order — your subscription CU burns first; Top-Up CU burns after subscription is empty
- 12-month expiry — each Top-Up purchase is valid for 12 months from the date you bought it
- 90-day grace after cancellation — if you cancel your subscription, Top-Up CU remains available for an additional 90 days
Subscription cancellation
If you cancel a paid plan:
- Access continues until the end of the current billing period
- Rolled-over subscription CU is forfeited at period end (it's attached to an active subscription, which no longer exists)
- Top-Up CU follows the 12-month-from-purchase + 90-day-from- cancellation rule (whichever expires later)
Plan changes mid-month
When you upgrade or downgrade mid-period, Stripe handles proration. The CU allowance is recalculated on next billing cycle; mid-cycle upgrades immediately raise your carry cap but do not add CU to the current period.
Founder / Comp accounts
A small number of accounts (currently: NeuronKite's own internal
testing) have unlimited CU. These accounts have a NULL wallet
balance sentinel and do not run against the CU model. You'll know if
you're on one of these accounts (you applied directly).
